The Chamber of Flashbacks – “Stop, Drop & Roll!”

Rebecca MorganFriends of ELO, Tips for Beginners

It happened one morning as Ross volunteered to cook bacon during hunting camp.  He seemed confident enough in the kitchen, so no one questioned his methods.   What should have been the alluring smell of bacon tantalizing the taste buds quickly went from a momentary beacon of bacon to a dangerous grease fire!

The lesson to be learned here is this… A cookie sheet with no sides is NOT the kitchen implement of choice to be used for frying bacon in a propane oven.  In other words, grease and flame are a dangerous combo.

The good news is that the hunting cabin did not burn down and no one was injured in the bacon disaster of 2015.  Bacon was not served for breakfast on that fateful day.  Ross has not been asked to make bacon since.

On the hunting front, hunters were overwhelmed by the presence of wolves that day, with no sign of deer.  Could it be the smell of burnt bacon was a draw for the carnivores and a deterrent for the deer?  One can only guess.  Perhaps if Michigan were to open up a wolf hunting season for better wolf management, Ross would be our super guide!
